Now let’s face it… We’ve all got busy lives. We’ve all got places we’d rather be than in the gym multiple times a week. We’re all human! It’s only normal to find yourself in a motivational rut with zero workout motivation every now and then. There will be weeks where we feel like superheroes- smashing multiple gym sessions and eating good tasting healthy food for most meals.
But you know what… we can’t always be going at 100%, and that’s okay. We’ve all been there, laying on the sofa with a loaded bag of chocolate on our laps with little to no intent on getting up. It can feel like a constant uphill climb (excuse the exercise pun), to overcome these mental barriers and it’s in our health’s interest to not allow these kinds of days to turn into weeks or months!
Here are some of our favourite, simple tricks to claim back that fiery motivation we all crave:
Commit to making one small change
By committing to one little change each week, you’ll soon have a host of new habits in your routine that are long-term and sustainable. Need ideas? To name a few…
1. Make your meal times consistent- this adds a routine to your day, find times that work for you and stick to them.
2. Plan your gym timetable on Sunday night, if you want to fit in 3 workouts that week- choose days that work for your schedule, book into your favourite class or prepare your favourite gym workout and stick to your preplanned days!
Change your routine
Sometimes we get in a slump when we’re doing lots of the same thing- you’re probably getting a bit bored of your usual routines. Try switching things up. Always doing cardio? Plan to do a strength session. Always running long distances? Try doing some sprints instead. Or why not go really wild and do something completely new- boxing, yoga, HIIT or Pilates. There are so many fun ways to train your body, discover new techniques and you’re bound to find an exciting new way to enjoy yourself during a workout!
Get a workout buddy
Your energy relies so much on who you’re spending time with! Find yourself a like-minded person you can kill a workout with, it’s a perfect way to catch up with a friend while working on your own goals. You’ll find yourselves encouraging each other and it makes working out so much more enjoyable.
Set goals
The pathway to success often relies on knowing what we are working towards. Set a realistic, performance-based goal for yourself. If you have a specific reason to workout you’ll find yourself more excited to train and move towards your predetermined goal.
Prepare a great music playlist
We can’t ignore the amazing power of music! A strong, fun playlist really helps to get the most out of your workout. Listening to music we love pumps our energy levels, elevates our heart rate and gives us that extra motivation to really smash that workout!
